Longitudinal, transverse, fatigue, edge, block, or reflection cracking in pavements occurs when stress upon the surface layer exceeds the strength of the pavement, resulting a fissure or grouping of cracks that alleviate underlying pressures. Crack sealing and filling are techniques used to properly fill and seal these compromises, preventing the penetration of water and other alien materials into the pavement, thus protecting it from further damage and weakness and extending its longevity. Crack filling materials may come in the form of hot applied rubber or polymer asphalts, or cold applied emulsion-based products. For sealing cracks, the sealant is usually elastomeric, meaning the sealant will stretch easily across the area being treated. The sealants are usually applied at elevated temperatures, as hot application helps to ensure proper bond to the surface and cures with the cooling process.
Several methods exist for evaluating the problem with your surface and the efficacy of all possible treatments. Whatever your crack sealing or filling project requires, Lagniappe will use the right tools and materials to protect your surface. Get in touch with us and we can help provide a solution to your surface issues.
